THE CALLING CONTESTANTS - bambi

Headquarter is at Gary's apartment again, but the magic bus eludes me. I believe I may have played at Art's cousin's apartment this year, but no one is really sure. The "rotating" category is Disasters, since the weekend is bitter cold (as usual) and only about half of the cars start without a jump. The Flying Zupan Brothers (hosts of the Deerfield contest) win the contest, and we finish 20 points out, in third. We play in an apartment above a hardware store in downtown Berlin. Many, many stairs up to that apartment. We play in "downtown" Berlin again. I am in Madison attending Joan and Paul's wedding. We play from the main building at the Heidel House. The rotating category is "Sound Effects". which means that we have to identify things like a toilet flushing or a door opening. The Heidel house building that we play in burns down several months later. We are moving to a hotel in Ripon, mocking Brian's Pineapple and Canadian Bacon pizza, if I recall correctly. Three of us play, we miss 4 questions and end up in 7th. Once I figured out how to search for the 4 questions per hour and live wrestling and fishing reports. And now the music is pure "Cow Country" - a good omen for GNI, but we would all rather have a bad omen and different music, given the choice. Again we have a small team, and finish 5th in a contest that runs from 8 am Saturday to 5 am on Sunday. The contest improves this year, as there are some tougher questions and the overnight hours are commercial-free. Apparently, they are considering going to a 2 songs format next year, which (if true) will also be nice. We have a skeleton crew (3), as several team members have to run a different contest in Middleton until 10 pm. We put on a good run during the night, and end up in the lead by 10 points. Unfortunately, we miss the last question. Fortunately, it is only worth 5 points.
